A Chosen Ballad (Chapter One)
Author TinyVickiPantsq
???'s POV
The little boy rushed out past the gates of the village, impatient for whats to come. "We have to leave before the sun rises, your taking too long!" He shouted, the little kid showing through in his tone. "Leave her alone...we'll leave when she's ready." The older male cut in. He was always stern with his replies, and often came across as being angry.
"But Mamoru, we wanted to leave before everyone got up..." The boy protested. They had planned to leave before the sun rose. So that no one would see them leave, but they were having a slight....delay. "Well he has a point Takai, it's hard for her..." A kind voice female interrupted.
"But why? We're coming back once we find him..." The Takai spoke again, obviously confused as to why they were taking so long to leave. "I know Takai, Nozomi is right though. This is really difficult for all of us, but she has alot to handle now..." Mamoru said softly, finally putting a hint of kindness in his voice.
"I wonder what she's thinking about, she's staring at the gates inscription..." Nozomi changed the subject.
Mamoru looked to Nozomi and stated with in a 'matter of fact' tone as he walked past Nozomi and toward Sumi."Well there's your reason...". "But she can-" Nozomi began as Takai jumped forward, seeming to be hyper now. "Why is she looking at the gate, I thought she couldn't read it..."
Sumi turned her attention to Mamoru, his long white hair shone against the rising sun, his purple eyes focused on the long blue haired girl before him. She wore light blue shorts with a see through blue skirt and black boots and a case on her left thigh for her rod and daggers. Her black belly shirt made her silver pendant stick out like a sore thumb. They had stared at each other for a few more moments, almost as if they were communicating. But the contest was cut off by Sumi walking toward them, Nozomi's golden eyes caught the movement of the girl and ceased talking to Takai. She was easy to pick out in a crowd, her long buster sword hung from her back and held back some of her long white hair and fur on the shoulders of her tan coat, which stretched down to her feet. Her bright yellow and brown tank top and brown shorts blended well with her brown boots which reached up to her knees. Sumi continued to walk to the group, and to Takai's surprise, didn't stop. As she walked through the group, she spoke, not stopping to make sure she was heard. "Let's go..."
I ran out to the group as I heard Sumi announce their departure shouting, "Wait!". Sumi stopped walking, still facing away from the group, while the rest of the group turned to me. "Where are you going?!" I continued.
Nozomi look toward me with an annoyed look. "What do you want? We'll be back, just tell everyone we're doing what our parents did..."
"Your just going to leave me here? They'll kill me if i stay!" I declared.
Takai's face lightened as he made his statement. "You'll be fine, they know your a friend of ours." "But-" I began but Mamoru interuppted me. "You should stay here, just incase she comes here..."
My face darkened at the thought of her. "I don't think she ever will, it's only the town name thats similar...I must come with you."
Nozomi, who seemed to be getting more annoyed by the minute stated. "You think that you'll have any better of a chance outside of the town? I mean, we know you can fight and everything, but we don't want to put you in danger."
This was starting to irritate me, I was able to handle myself. I snapped back at Nozomi for a moment. "I'll be fine, besides, I heard rumors about a place that might help me get back...or at least find her." Nozomi didn't answer with anything other than a confused and curious look. You continued "It's a great scar in the planet with alot of power. The place where "The Legends Three" had battled Ronin. I heard it can give you more power because of what was used between them."
Takai instantly became interested and rose his eyebrows in excitement. "Cool! Who'd you here that from?" He looked at my craving an answer so I replied. "An old man th-"
That was when Nozomi cut me off, "You should really learn not to listen to him, that old geezer loves to tell stories." It was times like this that it became really difficult to keep a straight face. "...Yeah, but still, he told that story about-"
"Let's go...Itai, you too...", her voice chimed in, sounding almost emotionless. She sounded like me most times, but everyone standing here could pick up that hint of kindness that shined bright in Sumi's heart. That was something that I lacked, and I don't care to ever have it. The only feelings I manage to feel now are surprise, and anger.
"You'll let me join you!?" I replied.
Sumi doesn't reply, she simply walked away, and of course, I took that as a yes, I was so surprised that I ran through the small crowd of people and caught up to Sumi. But before I could pass her Mamoru had caught my attention by appearing in front of me.
"Don't get in the way, if we say hide, you hide with Sumi and protect her, got it?" he practically growled...I hate when he does that...but I gave in, nodded and said "Right whatever..." in my head, I was thinking "What's wrong with him?".
I walked down the road with the group away from Maori, in a way, I was glad, this wasn't even my home, or world for that matter. I have been searching for this town since I heard of it, in hopes that it was the way back, but with my luck of course, it was nothing but a coincidence. Ever since I found this out, I've wanted to leave in search of her, but I didn't know where to go, or where NOT to go. The people in the village of Maori wanted me dead. I had been here for what seemed like forever. The only people who knew and liked me (or rather didn't want me dead) was Sumi, Takai, Mamoru, and Nozomi. They were after all the people who protected me and gave me a place to stay. Shaking the memories from my head, I turned to face Sumi.
"...Thank you, for letting me come with you..." I grumbled, giving my thanks was never something I LIKED doing.
She turned to me and nodded, "You had a point, if we left you there, you would have died, and never found her." I was glad that someone was finally on my side with this, it meant that I no longer had to argue and beg to come along.
"Yeah, that's if it's possible to find her. She's back in my world, there's no way for us to cross into another world..." I replied, I didn't mind talking with Sumi too much, the conversations where simple and blunt. I soon heard Sumi's voice cut through my thoughts.
"Your here, are you not?"....I hated when she did that....
When she made sense...
I stopped as Sumi continued to walk down the road, I knew that she had a point, it was just something that I never though of before, If I got here, then maybe there was a way for that path to open up again. Suddenly, I got an idea.
"I've got a theory!" I shouted as I ran to catch up with Sumi once again. "I was sacrificed for a final summoning to seal a bunch of Remarians away, do you think that if I'm used as a sacrifice for a summoning, I could go back?"
I looked to her, waiting for a response, my face probably screaming desperation. That was when her face slightly darkened. "There's only one problem with that, the-ah!"
Sumi was caught off gaurd by a person who had come flying from a tree, he crashed down and landed on Sumi, Mamoru and Nozomi rushed over as I tried to pull the man off my companion. He was unconcious so he was difficult to move. Nozomi checked to see if Sumi was ok after the man was off, during which Mamoru looked around to check the surroundings out.
While Mamoru was looking around, Nozomi looked up to make eye contact with three worried guardians awaiting her diagnosis. "She was knocked out, she should be fine in a couple minutes."
Mamoru sighed in relief, Takai's face brightened at the news, and I simply walked toward the man who had caused all of this to begin with. Mamoru finally stated, "Everything looks clear in the area, but we'll have to be careful.
As Mamoru spoke, I noticed some noises coming from the ground. Our strange visitor was starting to stir. I waved to catch their attention, "...The man's getting up...He looks hurt..."
His eyes slowly opened, almost as if he woke up from a long sleep, and faught to focus them as he questioned, "Where am I?"
Mamoru wasted no time, starting his interrigation, "Who are you? And what do you want?"
The silver haired gaurdian ran over to the man when he didn't answer and picked him up. The man was shocked and blurted something out.
"Who the hell are you? Let me go!" Mamoru was quickly becoming angry.
"Answer my question!" He shouted. This was when Nozomi had decided that enough was enough. "Mamoru stop! he didn't intentionally hurt her!"
The two older ones were arguing about letting the stranger go when Takai stood and shouted to catch our attention, "What's that!?"
Takai had seen a shadow in the edge of the forest move, and it soon caught our attention. Mamoru dropped the man and got in a fighting stance. A moment later the shadow moved closer and revealed a huge badger looking Remarian. He was set to charge just before that man ahead of us full force. The badger jumped up and landed on the man and started to claw at his body. The man was almost helpless, that is until the remarian was thrown off. No one even noticed Sumi had gotten up, let alone that she had attacked the badger. Sumi turned to the man on the ground and helped him up. But because she was helping she didn't notice the badger had gotten up. I ran to help her but was too late. He had slashed her back and arm, causing her to yelp in pain. Nozomi and Takai ran to Sumi's side as she collapsed to the ground, Mamoru had gotten away and tackled him. The remarian was fighting back but it wasn't working well, that is until the man pushed Mamoru off...
"This is MY fight, stay out of it!" He hissed. Which was a very wrong idea, I personally don't care about wether or not I make someone angry, but my only exception to the rule here is Mamoru. He was always someone that you just didn't want to make angry, or else it'll end in you either being dead....or wishing you were... Mamoru shouted "Well your opponent attacked Sumi, so now it's my fight!"
My companion punched the man in the face as the Remarian got up, Mamoru then stepped aside to reveal that the Remarian was running at full force at the man...
"Alright, if you say so." He stated as a smirk crept along his face.
The man realized what Mamoru had done and screamed, "Damn it!!!" as he braced himself while the badger leapt in the air.
We all expected the badger to jump on the man and take his life, that was until we heard "FLARE!!!".
A blast of fire shot at the Remarian, killing him on impact. The man got up and turned to me, he looked absolutely shocked. But before he could say anything, Takai broke the silence.
"Sumi! your ok!" Nozomi walked up to her sister with a face of not only relief, but one of achievement. She congratulated Sumi, "Nice job with the flare spell, looks like you mastered it..."
The man broke through their celebration when he ran and stood close to Sumi's face, " You did that!?"
Takai, who was still excited shouted, "Of course she did! who else would?"
The mysterious man was shocked and dumb-founded. He questioned "But she was knocked out" I noticed that he glanced at where Sumi's wound once was, only for his eyes to widen more. "Your wound! It's gone! How di-"
"We'll be asking the questions around here...who are you?" Mamoru wasn't done with his interrogation yet, the badger mearly....distracted him..
The man then took on a truimphent face. "You can't demand things like that from me! I'll kill you! Do you know who I am?"
Takai looked up to the sky with his finger pointed on his chin, almost thinking before answering, "Nope."
The stranger looked angry for a moment before continuing his explaination. "I am the son of Masakazu, one of the legends three!"
I couldn't help but watch as Sumi turned her attention to the man with complete shock.
